- discuss different times in history when 'social agendas' were hotly contested in America like, social security, welfare, etc. and how there opponents have the same criticism of healthcare.
- What exactly is a "socialist state', talk about the red scare and what is it about socialism the irks some Americans.
- How the creation of our country( Puritanism and breaking away from Britain) has impacted what we think are "fundamental rights"
Okay, so you're off to a great start with lots of ideas for research! Your main points cover a LOT of ground, probably too much for a three-page essay. I think that even just two of these main points will provide enough for you to work with. I especially feel that the effect of our Puritan roots on issues of healthcare, whether or not it's a right vs. a privilege, is a promising angle. The whole socialism angle is also just endlessly fascinating...why are so many Americans quick to cry "Socialist!" And why so much fear involved? But I digress... I'm excited to see what you decide to focus on, just make sure you break in down to a few key cause/effects and thoroughly examine those few.
